As Winter approaches many people forget to assess their deck conditions in preparation for harsh weather. If you have a deck or patio take these steps now while the weather is still warm to prepare for winter, and potentially save yourself a great deal of heartache and expenses once spring rolls around.
As the weather gets colder the first step is to clear your patio of anything you won’t require during winter such as BBQ’s or summer equipment. This will give you a clear view of your patio while also keeping these items in good condition.
Your decks and patios need a through cleaning to get rid of leaves, dirt, dust and other unwanted debris that has accumulated during summer. Be sure to check all areas of your deck or patio and make sure any build up of unwanted debris has been removed.
Give all visible stains a thorough scrub with a formulated deck cleaner to thoroughly remove the grime before doing anything else to prep your deck or patio.
A solution of 10% chlorine bleach to water will help you scrub away any mildew stains. If you don’t eliminate all the mildew, it can cause damage to your deck or patio over the winter. Using a pressure washer is an effective means of removing built-up grime, slime and debris from a patio, including patios made of brick, pavers, concrete or even wood.
